Causes of constipation may be:

  • Improper Diet
  • Lack of fibrous diet
  • Stress
  • Dehydration

How to treat constipation with acupressure therapy?

There are many points which can be treated to get relief and cure from constipation.  Few effective points are given below.

 1- CV-6: Location: two fingers-width below the belly button. Apply firm deep strokes of pressure into the abdomen.                                                       

 2- CV-25: It is situated below the center of the lower lip and chin. Activate this point once or twice a day to get relief from constipation. (Author: I press this point few times before goint to toilet and it helps me with constipation)

3- CV 12: To calm the nerves and stimulate digestion, it is four thumb widths above the navel in the center of the abdomen. Calm the point with the palm, using gentle stroking for several minutes.                                                                                                  

4- Liv-3 : Location: on the top of the foot in the webbing between the big toe and the second toe.

Direction: apply firm deep strokes of pressure in upward direction. (do it on both feets)

5- St- 36 :  With the tip of your index finger probe the area on the front side of a leg below the knee until you feel a slight dip.

6- Li-4 : Location: between thumb and index finger as indicated on the picture.

7- LI 11-Triggers colon function and relieve constipation and indigestion. Apply gentle pressure with your thumb to the point on the outside edge of the crease of your bent elbow.

8- SP 15: Regulates and moves Qi in the Intestines (promotes bowel movement by stimulating peristalsis). It is an mportant point for regulating the Large Intestine Qi.

Repeat applying pressure for 1 minute at the other side of abdomin.
